Potterton Boilers: Prices, Reviews and Boiler Ranges

With a record stretching back 150 years, Potterton is a British company with true British values. Potterton has made its name synonymous with reliability and this applies to the brand’s boilers and other product ranges, its people and its customer service. With an excellent track record in supplying high efficiency heating products, Potterton is a name you can trust.

Potterton Combi Range – Versatile, High Efficiency, Award-Winning Boilers

The Potterton combi boiler range includes the brand’s flagship product, the Potterton Gold Combi HE A, which is the ultimate choice in high-efficiency heating. Combi boilers are the best-selling boiler type for gas central heating in Britain and will provide heat for radiators and domestic hot water on demand. As with any combi boiler, they can only provide maximum water pressure through one tap at a time, but they are an economical choice for small households with relatively low hot water demands. Additionally, they take up little space and are easy to fit. All Potterton combi boilers are highly efficient and reasonably priced. Prices range from £640 to £1,310 and come with varying flow rates and outputs.

Potterton’s combi boiler range offers A-rated solutions for homes of all sizes and includes the following options:

Potterton Heat Only Range – Eco-Friendly & Adaptable

Potterton heat only boilers are a small yet powerful solution to central heating and hot water provision. Hot water is provided in conjunction with a domestic hot water cylinder and a cold water cistern, which is usually in the loft above the boiler (a gravity feed). In most instances, there is also a separate expansion cistern. Heat-only boilers are usually present in older properties and if your home already runs on this system, it is easy to replace without too many pipework changes. Heat only boilers enable you to use a number of taps at once and are excellent solutions for homes with larger hot water demands. Potterton heat only boiler prices range from £498 to £1,221 and they are available in a range of outputs.

Below, you can compare each Potterton heat only boiler series and find out which options are best suited to your home and requirements:

Potterton Floor Standing Storage Boiler Range – Efficient Heating & Instant Hot Water

Potterton’s floor standing gas boilers have their own 90, 115 or 150-litre store and have been designed to fit snugly in an airing cupboard. They’re able to work with fully pumped sealed systems using natural gas and do not require a separate hot water storage cylinder or any loft tanks. Perfect for properties with high hot water demands, these boilers typically cost between £1,900 and £2,140.

The Potterton floor standing integrated hot water storage and central heating boiler range includes the following solutions:

Store Gas Boiler SeriesSizesSize Of HomePrice
Potterton Promax Store90, 115 or 150 litre storeSmall, medium and large-sized homes with a fully pumped sealed system£1,900 – £2,140

Potterton System Boilers Price Range – Perfect For High Demand Households

Potterton system boilers work on the principle of stored hot water, however, many of the individual components of the heating and hot water system are built into the boiler itself. The system removes the need for a feed and expansion cistern, but there is still a cold water tank unless you have a pressurised hot water cylinder. Systems boilers are suitable for homes with higher hot water demands and a number of taps can be used simultaneously without a reduction in water pressure. Potterton system boilers range from £590 to £1,500 with varying outputs.

Designed to suit most small, medium and large-sized homes, the Potterton system boiler range includes:

System Gas Boiler SeriesSizesSize Of HomePrice
Potterton Gold System18 – 28kWSmall, medium and large-sized homes with multiple bathrooms£590 – £610
Potterton Promax System HE Plus A12 – 24kWSmall, medium and large-sized homes with multiple bathrooms£644.44 – £884.04

Why Choose Potterton?

Since 1850, Potterton has manufactured its range of boilers in the UK, so you’ll be choosing a British brand with over 160 years of experience. All of the boilers on offer use the latest heating technology, meet energy efficiency requirements and are environmentally friendly and easy to use. Potterton also makes sure each of its boilers achieves a 100% pass rate during testing to ensure all customers receive reliable products that they can depend on year after year. But what you really want to know is whether these boilers are among the best on the market. Let’s find out.

Gold Combi 24 HE Voted Which? Best Buy Four Years Running

From 2007 to 2010, Potterton’s Gold Combi 24 HE was voted as one of the UK’s top combination boilers and received the Which? Best Buy Award. It achieved a general score of 74% and got 5-stars for ease of use, features, NOx emissions and simple installation. The boiler series also got excellent feedback on its durability, efficiency and hot water output.

Which? Score

As one of the oldest boiler manufacturers around, it’s surprising to see that Potterton has an overall Which? score of 54%, which is considered average. Having said that, the brand got 4 out of 5 stars for customer score and build quality, so it seems as though homeowners are quite happy with their Potterton boilers. This isn’t bad when you compare Potterton and its relatively cheap range of boilers to some premium brands.

Potterton Boiler Problems and Repairs

Like any other brand of boiler, your Potterton boiler may develop a fault and stop working at some point or another. The majority of boiler problems occur when you need your boiler most and usually when you start using your heating again during the winter. While some Potterton boiler problems are safe and simple to fix yourself (such as re-pressuring your boiler), many issues can only be rectified by a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. We’ve written a guide that looks at some of the most Common Potterton Boiler Problems and Repairs, as well as the steps you need to take when faced with each boiler issue.

Potterton Boiler Fault Codes

Should an issue develop with your Potterton boiler, your boiler may show a fault code to help you and your engineer to determine if there’s a problem with your system. When a fault code appears, we recommend you call a Gas Safe registered engineer and give them the information on your boiler so that they can work out what went wrong and find a solution as quickly as possible. Different Potterton boilers will have different fault codes, so you’ll need to refer to your boiler manual or search for the correct information online. To save you time and to make it easy for you to identify the issue before you contact a qualified engineer, we’ve put together a guide to Potterton Boiler Fault Codes and what they mean.

Potterton Boiler Cover

Potterton boilers are built to last but the best way to keep them running for as long as possible is to invest in a service plan. Potterton service plans are available for boilers that are in and out of warranty, providing you with the right level of care for your needs. Find out what’s covered with these plans and then choose the right one for you by checking out our service plan overview here.

Potterton Boiler Warranty

All Potterton boilers come with a manufacturer-backed warranty of 7 years or less as standard, and the length of the warranty will depend on which model you choose to have installed at home. The warranty is there to protect you against the cost of parts and labour in the unlikely event that something should go wrong with your Potterton boiler during the warranty validation period. As with any warranty, you are expected to register the boiler warranty and check the terms and conditions carefully. For more information on how to register the warranty, what it covers, the warranty length and the terms and conditions, feel free to read our Potterton Boiler Warranty guide.

Potterton Boiler Controls

Potterton offers a wide range of optional boiler controls, such as mechanical timers, programmable wireless sensors and innovative energy-saving controls to suit your specific needs. These controls are designed to give you better control of your heating and hot water system and to help make your boiler more energy-efficient and cost-effective. As we know how difficult it can be to choose the right boiler controls for you and your home, we’ve created a guide that covers the different types of Potterton Boiler Controls available. Our helpful guide also explains how each control works, the advantages they offer and which Potterton boilers they are compatible with.

Potterton Gas Boilers Range

These Gas Potterton Boilers have been chosen for their quality, efficiency, price and overall reliability.  Please ensure that when choosing a new boiler that you obtain the advice of a qualified engineer.  A boiler engineer will be able to tell you which boiler type and capacity will work best with your home.

Compare them on the cost of the boiler and the cost of installation. Average installation costs are between £1,500 – £1,800. Comparing Potterton gas boilers prices could save you hundreds of pounds.

Other factors to consider include flexibility of when your installer can install you new boiler and their safety record. To ensure it is done safely and legally, all boiler installations are done by Gas Safe Registered engineers.

We may need to replace our Potterton Kingfisher and would like a quote , the present boiler heats a hot water tank and feeds 16 radiators as the house is quite big at 2000 sq feet.

The house Imay need repiping as the installation is 30 years old , but is still apparently in good condition, so we would prefer to avoid repiping if we can ,

The boiler is in the centre of the house in the kitchen and has a vertical flue some 20 feet to the exit .

Please can we have your advice . We would be prepared to have the hot tank removed together with the loft tanks and the boiler installed in the airing cupboard in one of the bedrooms which would mean the boiler might be about 6 feet an outside wall.

POTTERTON PROMAX – Do not buy one of these. We have had ours for nearly four years, spent well over £350 on it and it still will not fire up on its own. Potterton don’t want to know. We are going to have to scrap it this year for another make. Read reviews on internet. Some boiler maintenance people will not even touch them and those that do do so on the undertanding that there is no guarantee. When ours was first repaired it lasted 5 days. Re-repaired it did last about six weeks. The third repair lasted 2 days at the most. Bottom line is that these boilers are only worth their scrap value. If you pay more than a tenner then you’ve been done!!
